David O. Malone Student Art Competition

Sponsored by the West Point/Clay County Arts Council in conjunction with the Prairie Arts Festival.

The West Point Clay County Arts Council along with the Growth Alliance sponsor a Student Art competition during the Prairie Arts Festival. Attached is a copy of the rules and registration form. Please note the size of the art work– MAXIMUM SIZE of 11″X14″. This year all students’ art work will be displayed in the Louise Campbell Center for the Arts. Also, the LCCA will be open the day of the Prairie Arts Festival, Saturday, September 2, from 9:00 am till 1:00 pm. The winners will receive their prize checks/certificates at the LCCA Sunday, September 10 at 2:00 pm. Students and parents are invited to attend this art exhibit featuring all student art work on this day. Please review the RULES carefully:

  1. Students residing in Clay County and/or attending Grades Kindergarten (5 year olds)–12th grade in Clay County are eligible to enter the competition. The categories are: Best in Show–$50.00; 1st Place–$25.00 each (4 awards per division); 2nd Place–$15.00 each (4 awards per division); 3rd Place –$10.00 each (4 awards per division), and Honorable Mention Certificates (no cash award).
  2. The school with the most entries wins $100 to purchase art supplies for the coming year! Art work must be current (September, 2022-Present).
  3. Each student artist may enter one piece. An entry fee of $1.00 must be paid when registering. Work winning in previous PAF competitions will not be accepted.
  4. Acrylic, oil, watercolor, pencil, pen & ink, and chalk are all acceptable media for entry.
  5. Artwork should be matted or mounted (attached to mat board, cardstock, poster board or canvas) and not exceed 11” x 14”. NO GLASS will be admitted.
  6. DO NOT write your identification information on the front of the piece or its mat. The registration form should be attached to the BACK of the art work by the teacher or student. Teachers will receive a copy of the registration form through email.
  7. All entries should be delivered to the Louise Campbell Center for the Arts (on the corner of Commerce St. and Broad St.) Monday, August 28 between the hours of 3:30 pm and 5:00 pm. NO art work will be accepted before or after this date/time.
  8. Each student who wins in the art competition will be notified Tuesday, September 6, by their teacher. The winners will receive their prize checks/certificates at the Louise Campbell Center for the Arts, Sunday, September 10, at 2:00 pm. Photographs will be taken of the winners at this time.
  9. The rules and registration forms will be distributed through the Art teachers and Quest teachers at each school when school begins. Also these rules/forms will be available at the Bryan Public Library beginning Monday, July 24.
  10. The Louise Campbell Center for the Arts will be open the day of the Prairie Arts Festival, Saturday, September 2, from 9:00 am–1:00 pm for viewing of the art entries and the winners. Students and parents are invited to attend the Art Exhibit featuring all student art on Sunday, September 10, at 2:00 pm. Winners will receive their prize checks/ or Honorable Mention certificates at this time.
  11. The West Point/Clay County Arts Council reserves the right to reject any entry that is deemed inappropriate.

The Prairie Arts Festival is held each year on the Saturday before Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in historic downtown West Point, Mississippi.
